Biography Larry Nagy

When it came time to hang up his rock hammer and compass, Larry Nagy picked a little lake on the lee of the St Elias Mountain Range at the doorstep of Kluane National Park. Here he built Tincup Wilderness Lodge, a gem in the heart of the Yukon.

When Larry, owner and operator of Tincup, isn't searching the world for rocks, he's in the Yukon sharing his passion for the wilderness. Larry is a geologist by trade but a fisherman by heart.

Larry shares his outdoor passion with his wife and co-owner Jose Janssen. Together, they provide a first-rate Yukon fly-in fishing experience. Ernie loves to fish and is known in the business as "fishing guide extraordinaire".

After working in the Yukon's exploration and mining industry for 15 years, Larry decided to purchase land at Tincup Lake at the edge of Kluane National Park. During the 1960's and 70's Tincup Lodge was the destination lodge of choice for hundreds of local, North American and European visitors. In 1981, fire tragically destroyed the lodge and the property sat idle until 1991 when Larry purchased it. He then spent the next four years creating his dream paradise on the shores of the remote lake.

"The best thing about the Tincup Wilderness Lodge experience is its solitude, and of course, the fishing" says Larry. "I've always enjoyed the north's natural surroundings and the wonders of nature, and visitors have it all right here at the lodge."

Visitors to Tincup Wilderness Lodge are encouraged to experiment with a variety of fishing styles including fly fishing, spin-casting or trolling to catch Grayling, Lake Char and Trout. Fishing neophytes are also welcome. Larry will gladly provide inexperienced fishermen with lessons, equipment and an endless supply of tips.

At Tincup Lodge, guests are encouraged to set their own pace. For those who want more than fishing, Larry will arrange for hiking, kayaking, photography or canoeing adventures. He will also show you how to relax and unwind at the end of each day in a hot tub or sauna, supplemented by "tall" fishing tales and breathtaking views.
